Mission

The PFPA mission is to provide force protection, security, and law enforcement operations as required for the people, facilities, infrastructure, and other resources for the Pentagon Force Protection Agency and activities at DoD-occupied facilities not under the jurisdiction of The Pentagon Police within the National Capital Region (NCR). This responsibility includes security of the buildings, identification passes, anti-terrorism and force protection, chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear protection and detection, and other key functions. To fully respond to the responsibilities of the mission, PFPA requires contracted security personnel to provide protection of its facilities, physical assets, and all related operational activities for designated locations within the NCR.

Overview:

Captains are responsible for security personnel who safeguard information and classified Government materials located at DoD-assigned facilities owned, leased, or controlled. They must be able to effectively interact with the general public, DoD personnel, and all ranks of military, civilians, employees, and visitors. This position is under the direct supervision of the Project Manager. They are responsible for the day-to-day operations for the protection, safeguarding, and security of assets, personnel, customers, and all visitors at their assigned location.    


Captains are in charge of work requirements under the contract and shall be available at all times to receive and implement orders or special instructions from the Project Manager, COR/COTR, or their designees concerning matters that affect the operation and security of their assigned location.

Captains must be individuals of unquestionable integrity who display a mature attitude and exercise impeccable judgment.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all contract personnel are properly uniformed and equipped, present a neat appearance, and verify that each officer is mentally and physically prepared to accept a post.
  • Ensure all personnel are made aware of any changes in post assignments and pass on special instructions, announcements, or any other pertinent information that may affect security operations.
  • Conduct random on-the-spot checks of posts.
  • Interacted with employees and the public to resolve problems and ensure all personnel performed their duties and responsibilities as required under the contract.
  • Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic (to include property specifically owned, leased, or controlled by the DoD); control access at DoD parking areas as specified in General and Post Orders while maintaining vigilance of surrounding areas (if applicable).
  • Provide orientation and on-the-job training to all personnel and ensure they understand and perform their duties and responsibilities under the contract terms.
  • Maintain and operate the electronic security systems and train subordinates to operate the system when appropriately required.
  • Meet all minimum initial and ongoing training standards consistent with the position of Armed Security Officer.
  • Manage staff schedules and personnel placement and demonstrate fiscal responsibility while executing these contract standards.
  • Investigate, write, and administer disciplinary actions and handle terminations as conditions require.
  • Experience with computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint

Qualifications

Candidate Qualifications: 

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen 
  • Must Be 21 years of age
  • Must be a high school/GED graduate 
  • Must possess a clearance issued by U.S. Department of Defense
  • Must have an active DCJS with firearm endorsement 

Must have one or more of the following: 

  • 3-5 years of security supervision experience
  • 3 years of armed security experience OR
  • An associate degree or at least 60 semester hours of college coursework in any field of study OR 
  • 3 years of military service (active duty or reserve) with an honorable discharge OR 
  • Successful completion of the Police Officer's Standard Training (POST) course.                    

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • The applicant is required to submit to a pre-employment medical exam and drug screening.
  • The applicant must be able to pass an NCIC / State / Local Background check and Credit check (as applicable).
  • The applicant must be able to successfully complete a Physical Agility Test (PAT).
  • The applicant must be able to successfully complete a Firearms Qualification (FAQ).
