Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and professional Armed Protective Security Officer (Guard II) to join our team in support of our client, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Strategic Acquisition Center (SAC) in Frederick, MD. This role requires an individual who can provide superior customer service and uphold the safety and security of federal employees, visitors, and government property within the assigned post area.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Remain alert and report all incidents, violations, and safety concerns to the Contracting Officer Representative (COR).
  • Conduct yourself at all times with courtesy and professionalism in alignment with Federal Protective Service (FPS) standards.
  • Perform radio communications checks at the beginning of each shift.
  • Maintain key control and execute emergency procedures per the VA Emergency Action Plan.
  • Regularly review and adhere to all VA Security Post instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Become familiar with all post responsibilities, including Control Desk Guard and Rover Guard positions.
  • Learn and recognize key personnel, including the Director of Contracting.
  • Screen and verify all visitors' identification and ensure valid access credentials.
  • Facilitate unimpeded access for authorized employees during operational hours.

 

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to interact with the public professionally.
  • Strong understanding and interpretation of rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken standard English.
  • Competency in operating communication equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team with minimal supervision

Physical and Eligibility Requirements

  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Clear background check with no felony or disqualifying misdemeanor convictions.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and participate in random testing.
  • Must be of sound moral character and mental fitness.
  • Good verbal communication skills for radio and in-person interactions.
  • Ability to operate in a multitasking and fast-paced environment.
  • Possession of all necessary licenses, certifications, and permits for the role.
