Job Summary
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and professional Supervisor – Armed Security Officer to lead and support a team assigned to protect the VA Strategic Acquisition Center (SAC) in Frederick, MD. This position is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of security personnel and ensuring the safety and protection of government employees, visitors, and property.
The Supervisor will oversee the enforcement of security procedures and act as a key liaison with the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) and client representatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage a team of Armed Security Officers on-site
- Ensure all officers maintain a professional demeanor and adhere to post orders
- Coordinate and conduct radio communication checks at the start of each shift
- Maintain key control and implement the Department of Veterans Affairs Emergency Action Plan
- Enforce all federal, state, and local laws, as well as building regulations and safety protocols
- Routinely inspect posts including the Control Desk and Rover Guard positions
- Verify visitor identification and control access to the facility
- Monitor team performance and provide ongoing training or corrective action as necessary
- Ensure thorough incident documentation and timely reporting to the COR
- Be available for additional coverage during special events, such as open houses and recruitment fairs
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to interpret and enforce rules, policies, and regulations
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision
- Able to handle multiple tasks in high-pressure environments
- Proficient in written and verbal communication in standard English
- Comfortable using communication and security equipment
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- High school diploma or GED required
- No felony or disqualifying misdemeanor convictions (domestic violence, moral turpitude, etc.)
- Pass a comprehensive background investigation
- Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening
- Possess and maintain all required licenses, permits, and certifications
- Must complete all FPS-mandated training and pass written examinations
- Prior supervisory experience in security or law enforcement preferred
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse populations and clients
