Tharos Training Center is the leading provider of Protective Security Officer (PSO) training in the National Capital Region. Operating from a state-of-the-art, 40,000-square-foot facility, it trains over 5,000 security professionals and government personnel annually. The center offers comprehensive instruction, including firearms qualification, first aid, CPR, active shooter response, and specialized certifications such as Virginia DCJS and FPS PSO training.

The facility features automated indoor firing ranges, flexible training areas, classrooms, and an advanced active shooter simulator. It provides both initial certification and refresher training to maintain PSO readiness.

Using next-generation simulation technology, including the TI Training Simulator, Tharos delivers immersive, scenario-based training with realistic CO2-powered weapons, enhancing PSO decision-making, compliance, and firearms preparedness. The tri-annual Active Shooter Training reinforces readiness and risk mitigation for federal security contracts.


JOB DESCRIPTION 


TSS staff members play a critical role in the overall mission and operation of Tharos by directly supporting our training division.  The essential and consistent support of a TSS is carried out through accurate and efficient preparation of all training materials, meticulous and thorough record keeping and maintenance, support and assistance of the recruiting department and facilities team, as well as fulfilling all other duties as assigned. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Performs receptionist and general administrative duties as directed 
  • Maintains confidentiality of all corporate, personnel and research matters 
  • Monitors the training schedule and produces all necessary course materials and documents required 
  • Receives and processes all class documents upon course completion 
  • Ensure all training documents are correct and complete upon reception 
  • Facilitates corrective actions to documents when needed 
  • Maintains organization and quality control of hard and electronic files and documents 
  • Performs electronic and handwritten training data entry 
  • Scans, emails, sorts, files and distributes training documents 
  • Produces, receives, tracks and submits recruit timesheets 
  • Answers reception area telephone and provides necessary assistance or guidance 
  • Grants access to reception area visitors and provides necessary assistance and guidance 
  • Receives, processes and logs training document requests, and efficiently maintains activity records 
  • Supports recruiters by assisting with candidate and recruit activities and needs
  • Prepares classrooms and materials for New Hire Orientation sessions 
  • Ships and receives parcels from various carriers, and notifies addressees of reception 
  • Assists management personnel by fulfilling assigned tasks as assigned 
  • Processes student training registrations and facilitates any applicable payments

Physical Demands 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

1.       To stand and sit for several hours.

2.       May have to lift up to twenty (20) pounds and carry over some distance. Carts and dollies will be provided.


POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK 

This is a Full-Time position providing support to clients in other time zone. This position is expected to be available from at least 8 am EST to 5 pm EST for client service (Times may vary). The position does provide for flexibility in scheduling other hours as workloads demand. 

The position may require availability on nights, weekends and holidays for projects.  


Travel

Travel will be less than 10%.  

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS 

  • 3 years of continuous full-time experience in a high-volume administrative capacity is preferred 
  • Professional knowledge and experience in the training and education industry is preferred 
  • Comfortable and effective with technology and computers 
  • Exceedingly proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel 
  • Exemplary customer service and communication skills 
  • Solid critical thinking skills, and adept problem recognition and solving abilities 
  • Substantial organizational skills 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a heavy administrative workload 
  • Capable of responding to changes and being flexible with a positive attitude 
  • Able to apply a high degree of attention to detail and foresight to all responsibilities and assignments 

 

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE 

Possess or be able to obtain a clearance level of Secret or higher issued by the United States Department of Defense if working on certain types of contracts.
